Hi! My name is Jaycee Norris. I grew up in Fall River, Shasta County, with a ranching background. This summer, I have the privilege of working at the Modoc Extension Office, primarily on a virtual fencing study on the Modoc National Forest Service. You may also see me conducting grazing utilization in the Warner Mountains or testing new virtual fencing collars on Livestock Guardian Dogs.

I grew up showing cattle through 4-H and FFA. My family has a small ranch where I learned about the daily responsibilities of owning cattle. I have also helped my family in Cedarville, Modoc County, turn out and gather on the range. This has helped spark my passion for animal stewardship and the importance of rangeland health. I recently graduated from California State University, Chico, with an Animal Science Degree and a minor in Agricultural Business. I was last year’s Chico State Beef Unit Herdsmen, and have worked at the Chico State Beef Unit since my first year at Chico State. I was involved in the Young Cattlemen’s Association and Rangeland Management Club. This has furthered my education in cattle husbandry and range management practices.

I hope to use all of my knowledge and experience to help with the virtual fencing project and other studies to further my understanding of cattle welfare and rangeland health. I am excited to learn more about Modoc County's specific areas of concern. I hope to stay involved in the cattle industry and rangeland management in the future as well. I will be working with the Modoc Extension Team for about six months. I look forward to meeting you or seeing you in the field.
